British Geophysical Association, New Advances in Geophysics Meeting 2010

Magma Emplacement and Storage in the Earth's Crust

11-12 February 2010

Geological Society, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London

NEW: FULL PROGRAM AND ABSTRACT VOLUME NOW AVAILABLE

Magma plays a critical role in governing the mechanics of seafloor spreading, continental rifting, and in the formation of continental crust at subduction zones. Yet, until recently, few direct observations had been made of magma emplacement and storage. This meeting will bring together scientists from a variety of disciplines within Earth Sciences to discuss new inter-disciplinary observations and models of magma emplacement and storage, and the implications for volcanism.

Keynote Speakers to Include: Claude Jaupart (Institut de Physique du Globe, Paris), Will Wilcock (University of Washington), Matt Pritchard (Cornell University) and Charlie Langmuir (Harvard University).

Other invited speakers: Zhong Lu (USGS), John MacLennan (University of Cambridge), Freysteinn Sigmundsson (University of Iceland), Catherine Annen (University of Bristol), Kathy Whaler (University of Edinburgh), James Hammond (University of Bristol), .
