Peatland restoration involves creating the right conditions for peat moss to grow. This means that land needs to be re-wetted.

Different techniques can be used for restoring peatlands, for example:

Channels and ditches that drain the land are blocked, so less water can flow off

On large areas of bare peat, soil is stabilised through mats or by bringing patches of vegetation back.
