In a moment, we will present you with eight different choice situations.
In each choice situation, you can choose between two alternative peatland restoration programmes. The two restoration options describe how much peatland would improve to good ecological condition under a restoration programme. They also describe if restoration efforts should focus on particular areas, and the cost to you as a tax payer.
You can also choose a ‘business as usual’ option, where no additional peatland restoration takes place, and peatlands continue to degrade.
The business as usual option shows the share of peatland expected to be in bad ecological condition (40%) and in good ecological condition (20%) by 2030. The remaining share of peatland that is not in good or bad condition (the remaining 40%) will be in intermediate condition – note that this will not be shown in the choice situations.
The business as usual option serves as a reference point for comparing the changes achieved by the two restoration options. If you choose the ‘business as usual’ option, there are no extra costs to you.
