The
young detritus that was shed from the rising Alpine mountains forms deposits
called molasse. These are generally sandy but here they are conglomeratic. The
clasts can be linked back to rock-types in the mountains. In places the molasse
is involved in the youngest structures of the Alps as mountain building continued.
