Here are some links found as part of a first year tutorial exercise.
I found the geological website very detailed and comprehensive. They've got some good animations of thrust formation and the breakup of pangea. I think it is only useful to an extent because it is aimed at teachers and not students. Joel Clemence, 1GS.
The only useful section is the page with images of the mid - atlantic ridge and ocean spreading. I think the movies showing ocean spreading, transform faults and magnetic strips are very good. Joel Clemence, 1GS
This is a simple page showing the basics of plate tectonics but the illustrations, photos and satellite images are very good. Especially the image of the transform fault at the Juan de Fuca plate. Joel Clemence, 1GS
Research on Mid-Ocean Ridges (No longer available)
I found this website a bit over powering when I read it. It is very detailed and would probably go in one ear and out the other for a first year student!! However, for those who have done geology before it is interesting. Joel Clemence, 1GS
Information about the bridge program with some nice pictures. Tom Hieatt, 1GS.
Simple Plate tectonics (No longer available)
Not very detailed and fairly simple, but may be useful for students who have not done geology at A level. Joel Clemence, 1GS
A biography of Harry Hess - made important discoveries about ocean ridges. Tom Hieatt, 1GS.
A good search engine for geology related topics. Tom Hieatt, 1GS.
