Afar Stratoid Series

Afar Stratoid Series (4-1Ma) from the Dobi Graben in the west of the Afar Depression. The Stratoid Series covers about two thirds of the Afar Depression. In the first three photographs the Stratoid rocks form the valley walls. The pale deposits on the valley floor are salts and evaporites. Photographs by Lorraine Field, University of Bristol.
