Toulouse Team
The TL team is among the top geochemical training and research facilities in Europe with expertise in experimental determinations of mineral dissolution kinetics. More than 100 PhD Students have graduated, and more than 30 Postdoctoral Fellows have trained at TL over the past 10 years. The 45 permanent staff is comprised of full-time scientists, engineers and technicians. The laboratory also hosts over 25 international scientists and students, and has collaboration with scientists and industries located in over 24 different countries. The TL team has published over 500 articles in high-impact journals over the past 10 years, most notably quantifying in detail the rates of natural processes from the atomic to global scales. TL is closely collaborating with many large private sector partners (e.g., Statoil, Petrobras etc).
Role:
Responsible for training and research in the thermodynamics and kinetics of water-rock reactions; coordination of network wide research-specific and complimentary training events.
Key Competences and Facilities:
The TL team is renowned for its ability to quantify the rates of reactions among natural fluids and solids and its high quality experimental and theoretical studies on mineral-fluid interactions. It is equipped with the state-of-the-art equipment for measuring and interpreting dissolution and precipitation rate experiments, including high and low temperature mixed-flow reactors, atomic absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and two new-generation ICP-MS. In addition, it has access to a national facility for μ-tomographic analyses of rock cores.
Key Persons:
Team Leader
Dr. Eric H. Oelkers, Directeur de Recherche at GET, has more than 20 years of research and training experience. Dr. Oelkers is an expert in thermodynamics
Dr. Jacques Schott
Expert in mineral dissolution/precipitation kinetics.
Dr. Pascale Benezeth
Expert in experimental measurement of thermodynamics
Dr. Oleg Pokrovsky
