6. Biomes

The vegetation community within a biome will tend to share certain general characteristics

At a broad geographical scale it is more than likely that two areas within the same biome will have very different floras. Nevertheless the vegetation structure, and its functional attributes such as biomass and productivity are more likely to be broadly similar within a given biome, compared to between biomes. The percentage of biomass dedicated to the photosynthetic parts of plants (mainly leaves), the perennial parts (stems etc.), roots and litter fall varies between different biomes.
