Organisms do not occur in isolation

A group of individuals of the same species is known as a population. All of the populations within a particular environment are collectively known as a community (a grouping of populations of different species that occur together and potentially interact). When we combine communities with their abiotic environment we have ecosystems which when grouped together form the biosphere; the surface of the Earth and its organisms.
